Adoption Information Disclosure

Adoption Information Disclosure

What is Adoption Information Disclosure?

  • Adoption Information Disclosure is a system under Article 36 (Disclosure of Adoption Information, etc.) of the Special Act on Adoption, which allows an adopted person to request and receive information related to their adoption from the relevant institutions (the National Center for the Rights of the Child or an adoption agency).

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Any person who has been adopted under the Special Act on Adoption may apply for Adoption Information Disclosure.
  • Minor adoptees (under the age of 19) may apply with the consent of their adoptive parents.

What information is provided through disclosure?

  • Information provided through Adoption Information Disclosure is broadly divided into two categories: information about the adoptee and information about the birth parents. Information about the adoptee may be provided directly to the adoptee upon request, while information about the birth parents may be disclosed only with the consent of the birth parents.
