Hotels in Korea are classified into super deluxe, deluxe, first class, second class, and third class.

Hotel ratings in Korea are symbolized by the number of roses of Sharon, the national flower of Korea.

There are two types of rooms: the Western style with single or double beds, and the Korean style with ondol, a Korean floor heating system on which you lay out bedding to sleep.

There are conference rooms, banquet halls, restaurants, bars, duty free shops, fitness clubs and other facilities.Some hotels command magnificent views.

Most hotels are located in places that have easy access to the airport as well as popular tourist attractions.

Rooms must be reserved two weeks in advance. If it is the peak season or there is an international event, reservations must be made a month or two in advance.Checkout is generally before noon.

Room charges do not include meals.

Many hotels have few single rooms, so check the type of room before making a reservation.

In hotels, 10% tax and 10% service charges are added.

Room doors are automatically locked when closed. Carry your key at all times, and leave it at the hotel counter when leaving the hotel.

Youth Hostels

Youth hostels are one type of accommodations providing rooms at reasonable rates. In most cases, many people stay in a big dormitory-type room together, with communal shower and kitchen areas shared by all the guests of the hostel. There are over 200 hostels in Korea today, located in tourist attractions, downtown, and even on the outskirts. It is better to make a reservation in advance. In general, hostels are large and they provide facilities that measure up to deluxe hotels.

Motels & Inns

These are the most common types of accommodations in Korea, and they have rooms at low rates and are mostly located near bus terminals and train stations. Therefore, they are easy to find and extremely cheap. But the closed atmosphere and dark lighting may seem odd to foreigners. You should also note that motels and inns may not be well maintained. Rates vary according to location and facility.

Guest Houses

Guest houses provide a good opportunity for you to experience the Korean culture at a low price and meet other foreign tourists. They offer various types of rooms, such as single-, double-, or multiple-bedrooms, from which you can choose according to rates. Currently there are private guest houses as well as those provided by adoption agencies and Global Overseas Adoptees' Link (G.O.A.'L).

Woorijip (Our House), a home for overseas adoptees

Woorijip (Our House), a home for adoptees, was established on 20th November, 2006, to provide accommodations for Korean adoptees aged 18 and above. It is a home for Korean overseas adoptees who want to study Korean, experience the Korean culture, or find their birth families.

-  Note: Must stay with one to three roommates

KoRoot provides rooms for men, women, families and couples, and can hold maximum 18 people. It is a pleasant home with twoliving rooms, a seminar room with a piano, and a beautiful garden. It also provides a simple breakfast of cereals and drinks as well as lunch. The rate is KRW 15,000 per night.

Homestay

Homestay is a valuable way to experience the Korean culture and lifestyle. You can eat Korean food and learn Korean used in real life. The rates are low and you can stay for a long time by agreement.

Hanok Village

Hanok, the traditional Korean-style house, provides a good opportunity for you to experience the traditional Korean lifestyle. All decorations, furniture and windows are exact reproductions of Korean traditional homes, and Korean-style mattresses and covers to lay on the floor are provided instead of beds.
